Welcome to Warberries
Care and Nursing in Devon
Warberries is considered to be one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Torquay. Constructed Circa 1860, the home itself is a stunning Victorian grade II listed building with a very intriguing history. Lillie Langtry, Mistress of HRH Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) is said to have given Warberries, formerly Dunstone Villa, to Lillie as a gift. The beautiful Italianate villa is certainly fit for Royalty. As you open the original large oak doors and walk into the grand entrance hall, you are greeted by towering ceilings, original parquet floors, tapestries and paneled walls.
The original building contains very light and spacious rooms, ornate fireplaces and an array of original Victorian decorative features. We are slowly restoring the building to its former glory, including the restoration of the original Orangery (glass conservatory) - a very exciting project which we hope to have completed by summer 2014 (see news for more information).
The Langtry Wing
Our proudest achievement is the recent completion of our new extension - the Langtry wing. Modern, spacious, inviting and built to the highest specifications; many rooms have access to the patio and many have superb sea views over Torbay. A welcoming lounge and communal area with modern, bright furnishings is the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery. Elegantly styled modern furnishings, flat screen TV’s and ensuite wet rooms feature in all rooms.
Warberries is conveniently located just a a stones throw away from all of the shops, amenities and seaside charm that Torquay has to offer. Our home has a private garden with a sun terrace and outdoor seating for residents and families to enjoy.
The spacious en-suite rooms have comfortable seating and remote control flat screen televisions, in addition to new electric profiling beds and a 24 hour nurse call system.
Fresh and Nutritious
All meals are freshly cooked by our in-house cooks using seasonal ingredients, and menus are changed every week.
Our meals are prepared to meet the specific nutritional requirements of each resident, for example those who have special dietary needs such as diabetics, or those living with high cholesterol. For our residents who may have difficulty in swallowing food – we prepare meals that are not only easier to swallow, but also look appealing to eat and taste fantastic.
The kitchen provides three square meals a day served in our communal dining room or in the comfort of a resident’s room. For those residents with a sweet tooth - tea and cakes are served every morning and afternoon!
Sample Menu -
Selection of fruit juices, continental or cooked breakfast, porridge and fresh fruit.
Roast topside of beef with roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. Vegetarian Pie.
Dessert: Apple pie with cream/custard or swiss roll
Fresh soup and buttered roll. A selection of sandwiches, potato & onion pie, assorted cakes.
We offer a host of activities and entertainment to enjoy, from musicians and dancers, to choirs, crafts and games. Our residents are free to join in with any of our activities, and we try to tailor our entertainment to include as many people as we can.
The activity programmes provided by our care teams are tailored to meet people's individual needs and capabilities – and to be thoroughly enjoyed! These include gardening, baking, outings and gentle exercise. Other specialist activities such as reminiscence therapy, music therapy and complimentary therapies are also a part of our activities programmes. Our carers are trained to offer an holistic activities package, this could range from sitting out in the sun with a cup of tea (and a cake of course!) to making an individual easter bonnet.

Care & Nursing Services
All residential and nursing care is based on an individual assessment of needs. From this assessment, we make a care plan for each resident , which details all of their individual needs and how we will meet them. This care plan is constantly monitored and – where necessary – adapted to meet the changing needs of each individual.

My mum was in warberries for 2 years and I cannot thank the staff enough for the wonderful care she received when she was there. Mum needed round the clock nursing and the staff have her the highest possible level of care - nothing was too much for them. They always kept me up to date with what was happening and involved me with every decision. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming and the home is a really lovely place to spend time in. The food was fantastic - lots of choices for every meal and every diet catered for. The home itself is beautiful - very grand. An old manor house I think. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a home for their loved one.
"Excellent Care in a homely environment"
My nan was a resident at Warberries recently and I can't praise the staff highly enough. She was treated with dignity and respect and the care and love shown to her in her final days was outstanding. The staff are so approachable and really make the whole family feel welcome and part of the team.
